employee spotlight: Emily
Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Emily, and I was born and raised here in Lafayette. I studied at Grace College in Winona Lake, Indiana where I was an elementary education major and earned my teaching license. I currently am a nanny and the children’s ministry director at my church.
What is your job at Antique Candle Co.®?
I am a Production Specialist, which means I can lead a production area and I know every step of the candle making process. I also captain our inventory system, so I know what we have and what we need to ensure all the candles can be made on time, and are ready when ordered.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I really enjoy spending time with my niece and nephew. We have so much fun together and love going to the zoo! I also like to bowl and bike trails. I don’t really have too much free time right now, though!
What is your favorite place to grab some grub?
McAlister's! I love them. For a while I went there every Friday and got the grilled chicken sandwich and tortilla soup.
What is your favorite Bible verse?
Joshua 1:9 - "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
What is your favorite TV show or movie?
For a TV show, that would have to be The Golden Girls. I’ve seen every episode probably 3 times. When I was younger, I used to watch it all the time with my grandmother. For my favorite movie: Disney's Beauty and the Beast. I grew up with the animated version, but I enjoy the new live action one, too. My niece and I dressed up in Belle’s outfits to go see it!
What is something that most people don't know about you?
I'm not sure. Most people think I’m quiet if they don’t know me very well, but I actually love to talk. I’m an open book! I also kinda know how to play the accordion, so that's something.
You are happiest when...
I'm spending time with my niece and nephew at the zoo. I love the zoo and going with them!
What part of working at Antique Candle Co.® do you enjoy the most?
I really like refilling the fragrance bottles. It’s soothing and satisfying to have them all be full. But I also like pouring the candles, too.
Do you have any life goals?
Not really. Just to be the best that I can be. I’m kind of a perfectionist, so I don’t like feeling like I didn’t do my best.
Have you learned anything from working at Antique Candle Co.®?
Daily, how to keep my mind on the goal and staying focused on that while interacting with the team. Everyone here is so encouraging, which isn’t always my nature, so I can challenge myself to be more encouraging!
What is your favorite fragrance at Antique Candle Co.®?
Wildflowers. It really smells like lying in a field of flowers on a sunny day. It also kind of reminds me of the smell of a marshy area that was between our home and an elementary school when I was a kid.
What is your favorite thing about Lafayette/West Lafayette, Indiana?
It feels like home. I grew up here, know my way around, and know all of the local haunts. Some of my favorite places are Columbian Park and Arrow Head bowling. My whole family bowls, so we love going there and having fun together!
