You can also use other identifying marks to help date your jar! Phrases such as “IMPROVED,” “PERFECT,” and “IDEAL,” give further clues to find the approximate year that your Ball jar was made.
Some helpful notes to keep in mind:
- Not every jar has their manufacture date on the glass, but most have the patent date. However, this date has no relation to the year your jar was made.
- There will be a large number on the bottom of your jar. This is the mold number, and unfortunately also has no relation to the manufacture date.

I have two antique ball, perfect mason jars. I would appreciate any information on the value of these in the age because it seems confusing, according to the dates given for the perfect and the ball logo.
The quart jar local ball, perfect mason without the underline is 1923 to 1933. perfect mason all capital letters shows 1913 to 1922.
The jars are light blue glass with the zinc lid.
A number 5 with an_on the bottom.
The other pint is the same except has a number four with the_.

Hello. I have a ball mason jar that has the ball name without a line under it and perfect on it those two things should not line up. One should have started in 1923 when the other stopped in 1922. I can send photos if you like it has a number 13 on the bottom of it. I was wondering if you know anything about something like that. I know it’s not your thing but I thought maybe you guys might be interested in helping me?
