employee spotlight: Hannah
Tell me a little about yourself.
My name is Hannah, and I'm originally from the Atlanta, Georgia area. I'm a Georgia Peach turned Indiana Hoosier! Before I came here, I studied at Georgia Southern University where I majored in Multimedia Production with a focus in film and television. My husband, Alex, and I have been married for three years, and we moved to Lafayette two years ago.
What is your job at Antique Candle Co.®?
I am a Digital Media Manager. I create photo and video content for our social media channels (Instagram, Facebook, etc.), as well as for the website and mailing list. I also get to help the team make some candles every now and then!
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I like to watch Netflix with my husband and find yummy Paleo dessert recipes on Pinterest. (And then bake them!) I also love to explore new towns and places. Whether that means a short weekend getaway or vacationing with family, it's fun to experience new things!
Where is your favorite place to grab some grub?
My husband and I are Paleo, so we mainly cook our meals at home. But we did find this restaurant in Indy called 'Nook' that is a Paleo Influenced Diner. They have the best brussels sprouts!
What is your favorite Bible verse?
Psalm 73:26 - "My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever."
This verse reminds me that even though I am weak and I'll fail, God is my constant and will always be faithful and strong for me.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?
I am currently watching New Girl and I feel like I can resonate with the Jess character because she sings everything she thinks about, and I feel like I do that! My favorite movie is probably Pride and Prejudice with Keira Knightley.
What is something that most people don't know about you?
Before I found my niche in photography and videography, I originally went to school to be a news anchor. In high school, I created a small production with a weekly news show called "Hawk Talk." The show actually kept running after I graduated!
You are happiest when...
I'm in a local coffee shop during the fall season. I'd be most happy if that coffee shop is located in the mountains! There's something about being surrounded by the beautiful creation and sipping a good drink that is so cozy.
What part of working at Antique Candle Co.® do you enjoy the most?
When I'm shooting photos and videos, I think being able to picture how I would want to see a candle come to life depending on the fragrance is so interesting and fun, especially if it's for a new fragrance or an upcoming announcement. I love creating scenes that make you want to actually smell the candles.
I think everyone else's favorite part of my job is when there is food involved in my shoots, because that means they get to eat the spoils!
Do you have any life goals?
Yes, I have several. I want to be a good help-mate to my husband, and if it's God's will, be a godly mother to our future kids. In the far, far future, I also think it would be so fun to own a coffee shop in the mountains!
What have you learned from working at Antique Candle Co.®?
I've definitely learned how a small business is an 'all hands on deck' operation and it takes everyone doing their part or lending a helping hand to create the best candles possible. Seeing the small business side of things and the amazing businesswoman that Brittany is is so interesting, and this whole experience has helped me learn and grow personally.
What is your favorite fragrance at Antique Candle Co.®?
This is a seasonal thing for me because I like to alternate with how many good scents there are! In the fall I love Pumpkin Spice, but in the winter it's definitely a tie between Peppermint and Good Tidings. I think overall my favorites are the cozier scents that make you want to wrap up in a warm blanket.
What is your favorite thing about Lafayette/West Lafayette?
My favorite thing is my church family at Cornerstone. When Alex and I moved to the area, we literally moved away from all our family and lifelong friends, and the first people that welcomed us was our church. Their welcome was heartwarming and something I'll never forget. We have family here in Lafayette because of that.
