the reason for the season

Soon, families everywhere will be celebrating the most wonderful time of the year: Christmas! Family traditions will be in full swing with holiday cookies, stockings hung with care, and our favorite Christmas movies! (Who else loves A Christmas Story?)

However, with all the holiday craziness, it is so important that we take time to remember the true reason for the season.

The heart of Antique Candle Co.® is Christ. He is not only helping, but guiding this small business in the direction He needs it to go. With that in mind, we would like to share what the Christmas season really means to us.

John 1:1-5 & 14-17

The Eternal Word
1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
The Word Becomes Flesh
14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.15 John bore witness of Him and cried out, saying, “This was He of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me is preferred before me, for He was before me.’ ”16 And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. 17 For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

“I love that these verses show that God’s plan from the beginning was to send a Savior to the world, and Jesus is part of that plan. Jesus (The Word) was with God in the beginning, and came to earth to dwell among us—sharing with us His unfailing love and faithfulness. His birth, life, eventual death on the cross, and resurrection was the greatest gift of all. Salvation to all who believe!” ~Carol

Luke 2:20

And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them.

“I have recently been reading through both Matthew and Luke's accounts of Jesus' birth to get a better understanding of Scripture. As I was reading the story I have heard and read my entire life, Luke 2:20 struck me to my core like it never had before. Tears streamed down my face as I thought about how God prepared a way for the Shepherds to meet Jesus. He made it easy for them. Jesus was born in a manger, not just for the meekness and humbleness of it, but as a SIGN. When the Shepherds saw the babe lying in a manger, they knew what they had been told was true. To think they physically saw Jesus with their very eyes! It says they praised God for what they had HEARD and SEEN. What a beautiful gift of grace to know Jesus! It reminds me when God reveals Himself to us...what else can we do but praise and worship Him? What an amazing love He has bestowed to us.” ~Hannah

Isaiah 9:6

For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

“Isaiah 9:6 is a special verse to me during this season just due to the simplicity of the words: ‘For unto us a child is born, to us a son is GIVEN’. Our everlasting father is born and that itself brings happiness and joy. I also find encouragement in the overall kindness of the season, whether that be from family, friends, or strangers. I somehow seem to get closer to my family (which I didn't think possible) each Christmas. Each Christmas—no matter what is happening in our everyday lives—continues to be special. That's the part I look forward to every year!” ~Tori

Romans 1:16

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is God's power for salvation to everyone who believes, first to the Jew, and also the Gentile.

“This is my favorite verse all year-round, including the Christmas season. I love this verse because it personally challenges me to question if I am living out a genuine faith every day. It emboldens me to speak up when I feel the Holy Spirit prompting me. This verse is listed on the Antique Candle Co.® Instagram bio has a reminder to me and my team that God's power to save supersedes all. Jesus entering the world IS the gospel, the good news of salvation.” ~Brittany
